Match Report – V Belvedere

Saturday 13th October 2018; the first time in Emerald Warriors history to have entered two teams in the Leinster metro league (division 9 & 11). Unfortunately, in division 11, our opposition conceded last minute. Division 9 is new territory for our club, however a division we are more than capable of competing in. With division 11 offering an opportunity for a second team to be created and compete in the league.

With less than ideal weather conditions on the back of storm Callum, we took to the Old Belvedere pitch unsure of the task ahead. Competing at division 11 in the previous season and moving to division 9 posed a new challenge and created a lack of certainty of the level of competition. We started the game tentatively; a few gears down from what we normally would, weather conditions not helping. Yes, we conceded, however as we got into the game towards the end of the first half, our rhythm was coming back.

The second half was a much better affair, notching two tries and Conversions to bring us back into the game. We could see that Old Belvedere was rocked, opting to try for penalty kicks to increase their score on the board and kicking it out of play inside our 20-meter line. For our first game, it’s a good start to the season with much more to give.

Scorers
V. Kabongo – 2 tries
O. Sweeney  – 2 conversions
