It wasn’t until I was 24 that I took the plunge and joined the Emerald Warriors RFC. I had wanted to join for a number of years but I simply didn’t have the confidence. The courage to join the Warriors came from being asked to join a friend at a Warriors training open day. I jumped at the opportunity. There were a lot of nerves on that first-day, most likely because I wasn’t all that sure what was expected of me in the session. My mind was soon put at ease. There were men of all shapes and sizes training. Most players present were novices like me and some were joining to get back into rugby. While I was still daunted by the whole prospect of playing a “rough” sport like rugby the excitement around being involved in the team and club pulled me through. Still today over two years later I am excited to pull on the jersey and represent the Warriors.
I can honestly say joining this club was one of the best decisions I have made in my personal life. I am now a Warriors through and though and have lost count on how many close friends I have made through the club.
