I started training with the Warriors last season to get fit, make new friends and push myself beyond my comfort zone. I’d played rugby in school but gave it up when I started college. Ten years later I realised that beyond the occasional jog or gym session, I never really tested myself physically. The 9-5 life had started to take its toll and the Warriors offered me the perfect remedy – to get fit and make friends in an inclusive and positive environment. I haven’t looked back since joining and I would encourage anyone with aspirations of getting fit or picking up a new team sport to give it a try, I promise you won’t regret it. As cliche as it sounds, the Warriors are far more than a team and the work they do goes far beyond the rugby pitch. They are masthead of the gay community in Ireland and every time they go out to train or to play a match they are delivering a message of inclusion and acceptance and I am very proud to be a part of that.
